Choosing an intrinsically safe phone

How to choose an intrinsically safe phone for hazardous-area sites: screen, battery, cameras, connectivity and the confirmations to put in your quote.

Start from the shift, not the spec sheet

A phone for a hazardous-area site is carried for a full shift, often with gloves, often one-handed, and often far from a charger. The first selection questions are therefore about the shift: how long between charges, how much of the work is voice versus forms and photos, and whether the phone must read identification tags or only carry voice and messaging. Answer those before comparing screen sizes, because a phone that cannot last the shift fails whatever its other parameters say.

On this site, three phones carry listed specifications. The Aloha_5G PRO listing covers protection, temperature range, battery type and language support. The Unicorn10 PRO listing covers a large battery with long standby, a high-resolution rear camera and four-system positioning. The Versatile_5G material covers a large screen, a multi-camera rear set and four-system positioning. No phone page claims a performance ranking, because the sources do not publish comparable performance measurements.

Battery and charging discipline

Compare standby and talk figures only within one model's own listing, never across models as if the test conditions matched. The Unicorn10 PRO listing, for example, publishes standby, talk, music and video figures together; other phone listings publish no comparable set. Where a listing is silent, treat battery life as a question for the quote request, not as an assumption. Also note the use notes published for the Aloha_5G PRO: no cable interfaces, no charging and no battery replacement in hazardous areas. Charging discipline is a site procedure, and buyers should confirm it with their site safety rules before deployment.

Cameras, positioning and connectivity

Cameras matter when inspection photos are part of the job. The Unicorn10 PRO listing names a 48 MP rear sensor with a 2 MP macro companion; the Versatile_5G material names a 108 + 20 + 16 MP rear set with a fourth camera unspecified. If your inspection forms require a particular image quality, confirm it against the listed set rather than assuming the unspecified camera. Positioning matters for patrol and inspection records: both the Unicorn10 PRO and Versatile_5G listings name four satellite systems. Connectivity — dual-mode Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and dual SIM on the Unicorn10 PRO; Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC on the Versatile_5G — decides how the phone talks to site systems and accessories.

What to put in the quote request

Confirm MOQ and lead time in your quote request. Confirm certification scope and marking for your target market before ordering. Confirm the model availability for your site before ordering.
